As I was uploading this photo, I discovered that "Gray-necked Wood-Rails" have been split into two distinct species: Russet-naped and Gray-cowled Wood-Rails. We had seen the Gray-cowled in the Osa Peninsula, but this bird was seen at Casa de Cope.

Cope is a great bird guide and a fantastic artist who lives near  and he and his family welcome people to their home for a small fee to view the birds near his house. He also takes folks out for bird walks near the town of La Unión de Guapiles.

Please don't just show up at Cope's house, though. To avoid disrupting his family, please give him a call at +506 71365472 to schedule a convenient time to visit.
