About Steven Matute
I am a local tour guide from the area of Sarapiquí, a town located around the northen Caribbean area of Costa Rica, one of the richest areas of biological diversity in the country.
90% of our forest has been under study for 40 years, generating important data to the world every year. La Selva and Tirimbina are biological reserves that are still active places for wildlife research, which makes the Sarapiquí area important for scientific tourism and naturalists.

Countries We Guide In
Where We Bird
Sarapiqui, Fortuna, Caño negro, Tortuguero and Braulio Carrillo
We were birdwatching at Tirimbina Nature Reserve and met Steven at the end of the day. Very graciously, he offered to show us some great birding spots and help us try to find the Agami Heron, which had been seen near the creek.
Steven is a really great guide. He's very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, has a great eye, and has excellent English (which is helpful for us with not-great Spanish!)
I would highly recommend hiring Steven during your visit to Sarapiqui. You'll have a great time!
