About this birding hotspot
McLane Creek is a wonderful birding and wildlife area just a few minutes from Olympia. The pond and nearby creek provide for great viewing of many types of ducks, grebes, Red-winged Blackbirds, and many different kinds of flycatchers.
McLane Creek is a great spot to watch spawning chum salmon in November and December.
For birds, be aware that this park is very busy and frequented by school groups and many families with children. It's often quite noisy and it can be challenging for photographers or someone stalking a specific bird.
